Brand identity and exhibit design for a mechanical keyboard building pop-up.

keeb!

2022
The word "keeb" is a shorthand way of saying "keyboard" that is used by the mechanical keyboard building community. A mechanical keyboard is a keyboard that is characterized by "switches" that have different mechanisms determining the sound and feel of typing. So, I decided to create an exhibit that would be seen at a convention to learn how to build your own keyboard. There are many parts to this experience: brand identity (logo, type, colors, icons, etc.), 3D renders of the exhibit including directional and messaging signage, pole banners, and a booklet as supplemental material.
The brand's overall aesthetic is clean, friendly, and simple, so the exhibit appears welcoming to people who don't know anything about mechanical keyboards. Since this is supposed to be in a convention, it was best for the exhibit to not be limited to a completed closed space so it has one main wall with glass half walls so that people who pass by can see what's going on on the inside. I wanted the one main wall to stand as the attention grabber and a photo op with an enlarged and backlit logo. Furthermore, the layout consists of simplified wayfinding: the stations have posts specifying the steps with a line that runs through the stations and in those stations are details for what step is next (these steps can also be found in the booklet). Additional signage consisted of pole banners in which I took a more playful and typographic route to keep the friendly/welcoming environment consistent.
